• Netflix’s Sabrina Is Coming to Riverdale

It’s about to get spooky in Riverdale as Warner Bros. announced that Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina Spellman will be joining CW’s Riverdale for a season 6 crossover.

Shipka played Sabrina Spellman for four seasons on Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The series was originally developed for the CW and would have shared a network with Riverdale. But the two Archie-series reboots wound up on different networks in the end.

Still, that didn’t stop Riverdale creator and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic author Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa from teasing a potential crossover. And eventually, Aguirre-Sacasa announced the Riverdale and Sabrina crossover would happen in the comics. But it seems CW wanted this crossover on television as well.

The Archie comics have undergone a dramatic reboot in recent years in both the comics and on TV. Riverdale is a darker, more dramatic take on the classic American comic that doesn’t shy away from sex and violence.

In the same vein, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was a darker take on the teenage witch. The Netflix series embraced Sabrina’s ties to the occult and horror and garnered a dedicated fan following. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was canceled after the fourth season.

No word exactly on how Shipka’s Sabrina will find her way to Riverdale, especially since she died at the end of her Netflix show, seemingly. But as Riverdale continues to dabble with the dark arts, Sabrina will be a perfect new resident.

Eidos Montréal Adopts a Four-Day Work Week

Eidos Montreal, the Square Enix-owned studio that developed Deus Ex: Human Revolution and is working on the Guardians of the Galaxy game, is switching to a four-day work week. The change also applies to Eidos-Sherbrooke, Eidos Montreal's support studio.

The studio announced the change in a blog post, where Head of Studio David Anfossi said the move will help create a sustainable work environment.

"The idea is not to condense the working hours into 4 days, but rather to review our ways of doing things and our quality time invested, with the aim of working better," Anfossi said. "Above all, we want to increase the productivity and well-being of our employees."

The four-day, 32 hour work week will not impact any employee's salaries. Anfossi says one example of how the studio will make up the extra day is cutting unnecessary time spent in meetings.

Eidos Montreal is one of the first examples we've seen of a Triple-A studio transitioning to the four-day work week. Recently, Bugsnax developer Young Horses announced they were moving to the 32 hour work week as well. However, the studio said the shift was easy for them because of their small staff.

As of 2018, GI.biz reported Eidos Montreal was the largest Square Enix team with over 500 members, making this a much bigger move to pull off.

Eidos Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy launches October 26 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch (via cloud streaming), and PC. For more, check out our Guardians of the Galaxy impressions.

No Time to Die: Everything You Need to Know Before Watching

No Time to Die serves as the capstone to Daniel Craig’s five-film run as James Bond. It’s been nearly 15 years since Casino Royale was released, so you’d be forgiven for forgetting all the characters and plots that took place along the way if you haven’t recently done a series rewatch. Luckily, you don’t even need to have seen all the previous Craig films to enjoy No Time to Die, though you might miss some of the callbacks or the significance of some of the characters and story beats.

This primer will help jog your memory or catch you up on the 007 lore that’s relevant in No Time to Die. While there are no spoilers for the latest film, this story does contain major reveals from the rest of the series! (And be sure to read our No Time to Die review when you're done here, and check out our ending explained once you've seen the movie…)

    Who Is Mr. White?

Jesper Christensen played the assassin also known as the Pale King in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Spectre. White was part of the global evil organization Spectre, but was poisoned for opposing its leader. Before killing himself, he gave Bond information needed to take down Spectre and tasked him with taking care of his daughter, Madeleine Swann.

Who Is Léa Seydoux’s Madeleine Swann?

Played by Léa Seydoux, Madeleine is a psychiatrist who Bond met in Spectre when she was working in a remote clinic in the Austrian Alps to escape from her father. Mr. White taught Madeleine some of his trade, and she told Bond in Spectre that she once used a gun hidden in her home to shoot a man who had come after her father. She is in love with Bond and the two of them rode off together at the end of Spectre.

    What Is Spectre?

The evil organization Spectre is featured in the Ian Fleming novels that served as the basis for the James Bond franchise and has also appeared in numerous Bond films. They are responsible for crimes and terrorist attacks around the world and are masters of surveillance and spycraft.

    Who Is Christoph Waltz’s Blofeld?

Another major part of Fleming’s books and earlier Bond films, Ernst Stavro Blofeld was played by Christoph Waltz in Spectre. He was born Franz Oberhauser and lived with Bond for a while after Bond’s parents died when he was a young child and Hannes Oberhauser became his guardian. Franz became jealous of the close relationship James was forming with his father, thinking of James as a parasitic cuckoo bird.

Franz killed his father and faked his own death, taking on the name Blofeld and forming Spectre. He claims to have been the architect of every tragedy Bond has experienced since they met. He lost his eye and gained a nasty scar in an explosion Bond caused in Spectre, and was captured at the end of that film.

    Who Is M?

M is the codename given to the head of MI6. The role belonged to Judi Dench in the first three Craig films (and the Pierce Brosnan films before that), but her character was killed in Skyfall. The job then went to Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), who had previously been chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee. Bond has a much more contentious relationship with this M than he had with his former boss before she died.

    Who Is Q?

Ben Whishaw plays MI6’s quartermaster, who is responsible for equipping Bond and other 00 agents with a license to kill with all manner of gadgets. Notable inventions include sports cars outfitted with impressive weaponry and defensive capabilities and smart blood, a nanite technology that can be used to track the status of agents anywhere around the world. He has shown a willingness to help Bond even when it involves bucking the will of his superiors.

    Who Is Moneypenny?

Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) is an MI6 agent who first appeared in the opening of Skyfall. She accidentally shot Bond while aiming for a mercenary who had stolen information on MI6’s agents. After Mallory took over MI6, Moneypenny left fieldwork and became his assistant.

    Who Is Vesper Lynd?

Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) was a British Treasury agent who provided the money for Bond’s mission in Casino Royale. She helped save Bond from being poisoned at the high-stakes poker tournament he was playing in, and he in turn tried to rescue her when she was kidnapped. They fell in love and were going to run away together before Bond learned that Vesper had stolen his winnings from the tournament. He tried to stop her from turning the money over to Mr. White, and Vesper drowned in the fight that followed, locking herself in an elevator that was submerged in the Grand Canal of Venice in order to prevent Bond from saving her. After learning that Vesper became a double agent to save his life, Bond spent Quantum of Solace trying to avenge her, and she has seemingly never been far from his mind since.

    Who Is Felix Leiter?

Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) is a CIA operative who first worked with Bond in Casino Royale and also appeared in Quantum of Solace. Bond considers him a brother in arms.

Hackers Have Started to Invade the Battlefield 2042 Beta

After months of confidence from the Battlefield development team on Easy Anti-Cheat, images and videos have already started to circulate online of hacking during the Battlefield 2042 Beta.

Although the hacks are not as sophisticated as those that struck the Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta a couple of weeks ago, footage online shows wallhacks, aimbot, and several other cheats.

So far, we’ve identified three individual cheat providers providing cheats for Battlefield 2042. One cheat provider from China offers their cheats for just $2 per day, giving cheaters the opportunity to cheat during the whole Battlefield 2042 Beta for just $8. There are a few silver linings in the hacker problem though.

I spoke with content creator MavriqGG, who is knowledgeable about the cheating scene, including its providers, developers, and more.

“The reality is there’s no anti-cheat that is unbreakable,” Mavriq says. “What’s good for Battlefield is that no cheats that I’ve seen are open and easily accessible for free, unlike during the Vanguard Beta, so all of the cheats currently require some form of paid subscription”.

Mavriq added that "the paid subscription is both good and bad, as cheater developers provide an application to keep the number of users low, but it's also to avoid detection." This means that yes, although there are relatively low cheaters in the game, their numbers will be significantly lower than in games such as Call of Duty.

When asked whether the massive EA source code hack earlier this year contributed to hackers getting into the game as soon as they have, Mavriq says the leak possibly gave cheat developers a head start, saying, “Frostbite's source being out there essentially is like being given the notes when taking an exam."

One major weapon in DICE’s fight against cheaters is their new “Fair Play” commitment. The fair play commitment includes giving the ability to players to report cheaters in-game, a feature that is not yet been implemented during the Beta. Manual reports from players allow DICE to review each potential cheater's case individually and allow them to take the necessary action.

One caveat to this though, is that Battlefield 2042 does not have killcams like Call of Duty, so hackers may be able to hide their cheats more easily.

During a developer Q&A session behind closed doors several days ago, EA’s Lead Community Manager Adam Freeman explained, “We do have a team that has always worked for us on our anti-cheat, and actually, we do have new partners with us on Battlefield now with Easy Anti-Cheat.” Freeman emphasized that DICE and EA are committed to stopping cheaters and bringing new partners on board is a way for them to do that, compared to past Battlefield titles.

It’s currently unclear how much of an issue the Battlefield 2042 hacking problem will be, but with cheaters already in the Beta, it is concerning. Here's to hoping that EA can keep to their promise and commitment to fair play.
