• FIFA 23 Launches This September

EA has revealed that FIFA 23 will be available on September 30 and will feature women's clubs for the first time, as well as same-generation cross-play, World Cup DLC, and more.

Revealed on its official website and in a new trailer (below), EA's final FIFA game will include both the UK's Barclays FA Women's Super League and France's Division 1 Arkema, letting fans play as cover star Sam Kerr.

FIFA 23 will also be cross-play at launch, though like the testing in last year's edition, there are caveats. Players can only play together between the same generation of consoles, meaning those on PlayStation 4 can only play against those on the same platform or on Xbox One. PC players (and those on Google Stadia) will be in the same pool as players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series (X and S).

Friends can also only play against each other in online friendlies and FIFA Ultimate Team's Play a Friend mode. All other modes – FUT Online Friendlies, Online Seasons, FUT Rivals, FUT Champions, and FUT Online Draft – can only be played cross-play through online matchmaking. Players can also choose to opt-out of cross-play altogether, meaning they'll only ever come across players on the same platform.

EA has also announced that free DLC will be released down the line, bringing both the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 to the game. No release window was given for the DLC but the world cups start in November 2022 and July 2023 respectively.

FIFA 23 also promises to bring more realism and control than ever before through its new HyperMotion 2 technology that includes 6,000 unique animations to make players move more authentically than ever before.

This technology will not arrive in the Nintendo Switch version, however, nor will cross-play in any capacity, as EA is once again re-releasing FIFA 19 with updated players, kits, and squads, the new women's clubs, and a handful of new stadiums, but no "new development or significant enhancements".

Further reveals will be made in the lead-up to the game's September release date, with EA promising new information on gameplay features on July 27, Career Mode on August 1, Matchday Experience on August 5, Pro Clubs and Volta on August 8, and FIFA Ultimate Team on August 11.

Square Enix Is Selling a Cloud Strife Action Figure…That’s Also an NFT

Final Fantasy VII hero Cloud Strife is being immortalized in a new 25th-anniversary action figure… that also comes with an NFT.

Square Enix announced that the upcoming Cloud Strife figurine will include an NFT as part of the purchase – using the blockchain as a digital certificate of authenticity as well as a “digital version of the figure.”

“The digital plus edition is a set product of physical action figure with one each of exchange tickets to redeem digital certificate of authenticity and digital version of the figure,” reads the description. “Both digital certificate of authenticity and digital version of the figure are managed by the block chain technology known as NFTs. Digital certificate of authenticity provides proof of authenticity for your original purchase of the figure.”

“Digital version of the figure can be enjoyed on your smart phone or your PC through dedicated website,” they added.

Quite how you will ‘enjoy’ your figurine via smartphone or PC remains to be seen. Will this be in the form of a 3D rendering? A JPEG? Who knows. But you’ll have to sign up to the Enjin NFT platform to find out.

The figuring itself costs $159.99 and is available to pre-order now. It’s due for release in November 2023, along with both exchange tickets for the digital version and a certificate of authenticity.

Additionally, Square Enix will be attaching NFTs to some of its trading cards. According to CNET, the company will release a Final Fantasy VII trading card set next year, with NFTs bundled into packs as standard. Anyone who buys packs of trading cards will be able to redeem a digital version that exists as an NFT.

Still, fans and NFT critics aren’t too happy.

Will NFTs really make a good replacement for the old certificate of authenticity? And how can you enjoy an NFT anyway? I guess we’ll find out next year.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS Plus Intergrade Issues Now Fixed

Update 07/21: Sony appears to have now fixed the issue affecting PS5 users claiming the Intergrade bundle of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. As reported by VGC, it is now possible to claim the package even if you previously owned the PS5 version of FF7 Remake. Should you do so and already have the game installed, your console should download just the Intermission DLC.

Final Fantasy VII Remake players can’t claim the PS5 Intergrade bundle via PS Plus.

A quirk in the PlayStation Store means that those who already own the remake are unable to claim the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade bundle which has just been added to PS Plus Extra.

Intergrade, the upgraded PS5 version of Remake, includes the new episode Intermission – a spin-off story that features Yuffie as a playable character.

Unfortunately, if you already own the Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS5, you’re locked out from being able to claim or download the new bundle. Instead, you’ll find the following message:

“You can’t buy this product for the following reasons. You already own the following products, which conflict with the product you’re trying to buy: Final Fantasy VII Remake.”

This purchase error has actually existed for some time – players who upgraded from the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake to the PS5 version are then unable to buy or claim Intergrade. However, there’s never been a reason to do so, until now.

The Intermission DLC is available to purchase separately for $19.99, meaning that upgraders only had to purchase the DLC separately to gain access to the new content. But with Intergrade’s addition to PS Plus Extra, there’s a good reason to want the whole bundle. It is ‘free’ to PS Plus Extra users, after all.

This essentially means that PS5 players with access to PS Plus Extra will have to buy the Intermission DLC separately, whereas everyone who never owned FF7 Remake in the first place will get the content as part of their subscription.

A simple fix would be to include the Intermission DLC on PS Plus Extra, allowing PS5 upgraders to claim the extra content for free, just like everyone else. But right now, that’s not what’s on offer. And Final Fantasy VII fans aren’t happy.

“I hope this forces their hand,” said one user on Reddit. “I bought FF7 physical last year, and claimed the PS+ version, but have not been able to claim the PS5 upgrade for my digital copy.”

IGN has reached out to both Square Enix and Sony for comment.

First Look At the Characters from Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Paramount Pictures and eOne have unveiled the first glimpse at their upcoming fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves via a series a shots showcasing the cast of the film in full costume.

The images, which feature stars Hugh Grant, Michelle Rodríguez, Chris Pine, Justice Smith, and Sophia Lillis, can be seen in the gallery below.

Little is officially known about the film, but an apparent synopsis discovered back in 2021 indicated the plot would involve a thief assembling a crew in the wake of a botched heist, in order to rob a traitorous
conman who stole all his loot.

Hugh Grant has been confirmed to be playing Forge Fletcher, the main villain.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will release on March 3, 2023 after several years of delays.

To hear more from some of the cast and crew of the film, IGN will be hosting a TikTok Live at the Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Tavern Experience at San Diego Comic-Con on Wednesday, July 20.
