• D&D Honor Among Thieves Trailer Revealed Alongside Lots Of New Details At Comic-Con 2022

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the upcoming live-action movie, has revealed its first trailer.

Revealed during a San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel, the trailer shows off a lot of traditional elements of Dungeons & Dragons, paired with the comedic tone the movie is going for.

The footage showed a ragtag group of misfits, led by Chris Pine's character, who are going on a journey to search for a relic. According to the trailer's voiceover, the characters have accidentally unleashed "the greatest evil the world has ever known" and have to work together to fix it. You can watch the full trailer below.

In addition to the trailer, Paramount also revealed the movie's official synopsis:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

The movie's first poster was also revealed today, showing silhouettes of the main party holding their weapons in a golden dragon backdrop.
The party appears to be made up of a number of different D&D roles. One example shown is Sophia Lillis' character, who has the polymorph ability. The trailer shows her taking out tons of enemies as an Owlbear, before returning to her normal form. Pine's character even plays the lute, which is played for a joke at the end of the trailer.

At the SDCC 2022 panel, co-director John Francis Daley said that the movie has a "very unique brand of humor that sets us apart from anyone in the fantasy space".

Even with the humorous bend, the creators are striving to keep this movie true to what D&D fans know. Daley said that they included "dozens and dozens of monsters in this movie, and dozens and dozens of spells" that are all true to the extensive D&D lore. He also said that D&D isn't just a game, it's "about the feeling when playing the game and that's what we tried to bring to the film.”

Co-director Jonathan Goldstein added that they even worked with Wizards of the Coast to stick as true to the lore as possible. In addition to the Owlbear, clips shown at the panel included sightings of Displacer Beasts, a Mimic, and a Gelatinous Cube. There was also a fun easter egg reference longtime fans are sure to appreciate, as one clip showed the cast from the 1980s D&D cartoon as one of the opposing parties. We also know that there will be a cameo from at least one well-known D&D player.

Many of the actors in the movie have been turning to the source material by playing games of D&D. Pine recently played with his family, with his nephew taking the reigns as DM. Michelle Rodriguez played when she was a kid, while Sophia Lillis started playing in high school, and is a fan of both Critical Role and Adventure Zone.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is coming to theaters on March 3, 2023. The movie is in development at Paramount in association with eOne. Goldstein and Daley are directing the movie, based on a screenplay they wrote with Michael Gilio.

We've known about plans for a D&D movie for almost a decade, with a formal announcement in 2016. Until today, we knew very little about the film aside from its cast. Yesterday, we got a good first look at its main characters in costume. Watch for everything else announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 as the show continues.

D&D: Honor Among Thieves San Diego Comic-Con Clips Reveal a Competition With the Classic 1980s Cartoon Party

The wraps were fully taken off Dungeons & Dragon: Honor Among Thieves during today's San Diego Comic-Con panel, which included a reveal for the poster, the trailer, and lots of other details.

The panel also included two clips shown for Comic-Con attendees. The first revealed the film's slapstick humor, which is being likened to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It shows the party in a graveyard interrogating dead people using a spell from Justice Smith's character, who is the party's mage.

Chris Pine, the resident bard, comedically interviews a few of the lost souls, and we're treated to a flashback to a battle featuring a dragon.

But it's the second clip that D&D fans will really appreciate, as it's packed full of easter eggs from throughout the franchise's history. The clip shows the party in a maze orchestrated by Hugh Grant's character, the villain of the piece, and a gladiator arena filled with other D&D parties. Plenty of D&D monsters appear during the clips, including Displacer Beasts, a Mimic, and a Gelatinous Cube.

Amusingly, one of the opposing parties competing with Honor Among Thieves' heroes bear a strong resemblance to the characters from the D&D animated series that ran from 1983 to 1985. That party was led by Hank, the 15-year-old Ranger; a spoiled Cavalier named Eric; Diana, an Acrobat; Presto, the Magian, and more. How will Chris Pine and co fare against Bobby the Barbarian and the rest of the animated series' teenaged crew? We'll just have to see.

D&D: Honor Among Thieves is currently gearing up for a major marketing push as it looks ahead to its 2023 release date. Just yesterday, the heroes portrayed by Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and others were revealed for the first time.

    The film's official synopsis reads:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

It is currently to release on March 3, 2023. In the meantime, San Diego Comic-Con 2022 continues apace, so keep an eye on our round-up of everything announced during the show.

The Best Moments From the Harley Quinn Season 3 Special Screening | Comic-Con 2022

This post contains spoilers for Harley Quinn on HBO Max. Here's our spoiler-free Harley Quinn Season 2 review if you need a refresher!

It’s Warner Bros. Discovery’s first year at SDCC as a couple (or as a merged company, if you’re fancy) and, wouldn’t ya know it, their first outing included the first Harley Quinn episodes with Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Ivy (Lake Bell) as anti-hero power couple Harlivy (PoisonQuinn will forever be a better ship name, but sometimes ya gotta let the internet make the rules). The studio showed Episodes 1 and 2 of Season 3 ahead of its HBO Max premiere on June 28th.

Obviously, if you don’t want some hardcore spoilers before you get to check out the premiere episodes at home, you’ll want to stop reading now!

Harley and Ivy Aren’t In A Perfect Relationship

Things are weird! Not bad weird, just new couple weird. The girls are in their honeymoon phase and both women are trying to navigate their own nonsense as their relationship grows. Harley’s desperate to cling to the first real love she’s ever had, and Ivy has absolutely no idea how to work in any kind of team capacity. It’s great to see real, sincere issues layered in with the comedy, and even better to see our leading ladies tumble through them in their own ways.

    The Joker’s Not In Them

No matter which side of the Joker fence you sit on, there’s no denying that after a certain point the Crown Prince of Crime just doesn’t belong front and center in a story focused on Harley Quinn. I, too, thought his romantic turn at the end of Season 2 was pretty inspired. I just don’t think he belongs in the forefront of this series now that Harley’s finally moving on to bigger, better, healthier things. That’s not to say the series should nix Gotham’s greatest villain entirely – in fact, it has no plans to, since he’s got his own standalone entry later this season. It was just a smart move to keep him out of these first episodes and let Harley and Ivy take center stage.

    The Suicide Sqaud Jokes

We knew that Amanda Waller (Tisha Campbell) and James Gunn would both be joining the fun this season, and I’m thrilled to report that fans will meet both characters early on. Waller shows up to mess with Harley and Ivy’s honeymoon phase, and with her comes a whole host of Suicide Squad jokes to keep the die-hards engaged throughout her segment. Gunn simply plays himself, but a fun cameo’s a fun cameo! Time will tell what the involvement for these two looks like for the rest of the season. But for now, we are entertained.

    There’s An Unexpected Bat Family/Harlivy Crew Team-Up

Dynamic shifts are hard, even when they include the Dynamic Duo! Harley and Ivy’s crew find themselves in a bit of a rut as the new beauxs try to figure out the best way to navigate their partnership in the team landscape. Meanwhile, Dick Grayson’s (Harvey Guillien) return to Gotham throws the Bat Family into disarray as well. In an attempt to get their crews back on track, Harley and Batgirl (Briana Cuoco) separately schedule their teams for a go at an escape room. Plot twist: Riddler’s (Jim Rash) in control of the room(s), and the teams will have to form an unlikely alliance to get out alive. Nightwing’s angsty, Ivy’s annoyed, Harley and Babs just want their buds to get along, and it all works out as one heck of an opening ride for Season 3!

    It’s Frank’s Time To Shine

If I had one notable complaint about Season 2 of Harley Quinn, it’s that there wasn’t enough of Ivy’s plant-roomie, Frank (JB Smoove). Sure, we were busy taking over Nu New Gotham, whatever. Anyway, thrilled to report that Frank’s back and, if the first two episodes are to be believed, he’ll be playing a much bigger role in Season 3 of the series.

That’s that for the first two episodes of Season 3 of Harley Quinn. Of course, there are more goodies in store for fans in the episodes themselves (we didn’t want to get too spoilery). So don’t forget to check them out when they drop on HBO Max!

In the meantime, be sure to stick with IGN throughout all of our awesome SDCC 2022 coverage.
