• No Time To Die Director Says One Character Isn’t Who You Think They Are

No Time to Die director Cary Joji Fukunaga has addressed one popular fan theory about a Bond 25 character.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Fukunaga dispelled rumors that Rami Malek's Safin in No Time to Die is a rebooted version of Dr. No, the original Bond baddie from the franchise's first movie back in 1962, insisting that Safin is, in fact, an all-new villain albeit one that he hopes will have an enduring impact in James Bond's extensive gallery of rogues.

"Everyone thinks it's so easy to make these tentpole films, that it's just formulaic and you just plug-and-play and people are going to show up for the cinema," Fukunaga explained. "It takes a lot of smart people to create these films, and also to create these characters that will hopefully last. This is a new villain. He's not, as some have speculated, Dr. No. Hopefully, he'll be one that is lasting in some way."

Fukunaga recalled some of the early development meetings he had with Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to create No Time to Die's villain and the challenges they faced in coming up with an entirely new antagonist, knowing there's a possibility that the character could end up being parodied and not taken seriously.

"Making a villain that doesn't seem laughable, that you can take seriously, where it's still frightening what they're attempting to do and why they must be stopped, is more difficult than people actually acknowledge," Fukunaga admitted. "I remember us sitting around early in the development stage. Barbara and Michael have been doing this for decades and even Barbara admitted, 'This is really hard!'"

It's worth noting that a number of fans correctly identified Christoph Waltz's "Franz Oberhauser" as Bond's archnemesis Ernest Stavro Blofeld in Spectre before that movie hit theaters in 2015, even though Waltz himself maintained that his character was "definitely not" Blofeld on the lead up to the movie's release.

Little is known about the mask-wearing Safin, other than the fact that he is a "mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology," who may be "007's most terrifying adversary yet." All will be revealed when No Time to Die finally hits theaters, with its theatrical release in the UK set for September 30, just ahead of its US release on October 8.

Star Citizen Needs To Make It Clearer That Its Concept Ships Don’t Exist Yet, Advertising Watchdog Warns

The UK Advertising Standards Authority has told Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games that it needs to make it clearer that "concept ships" being sold for real money aren't yet available in the game.

As reported by Eurogamer, the complaint to the advertising watchdog followed the distribution of a Star Citizen marketing email sent out in July that told players not to miss out on their last chance to pledge for a Gatac Manufacture Railen concept ship, which was set to be removed from Star Citizen's store within 48 hours.

Reddit user mazty, who posted on the r/starcitizens_refunds page, said that they had reported Cloud Imperium Games to the ASA after becoming "fed up of CIG and the constant lies". The user said that they had reported the developer for misleading consumers as its email did not state at any point that the ship currently does not exist in the game.

Speaking to Eurogamer, a representative for the UK watchdog said that it had assessed the complaint and "considered that the fact the ship was a concept product could have been made clearer."

"On that basis," the representative continued. "We issued an Advice Notice advising the advertiser, in future, to ensure that its ads include any material information and significant limitations."

The Advice Notice, which the ASA uses to highlight instances where a company should be more careful with its advertisements without launching a full investigation, seems to have had some effect. Cloud Imperium Games' latest marketing email lists a number of further concept ships after which it includes a small print disclaimer stating that the ships are not currently in the game. The full statement can be found below:

"The Crusader Ares (Inferno and Ion), A2 Hercules, Genesis Starliner, are being offered here as a limited vehicle concept pledge. This means that the vehicle is in development but is not yet ready to display in your Hangar or fly in Star Citizen. It will be available as playable content in a later patch. In the future, the vehicle price may increase and Lifetime Insurance or any extras may not be available. If you pledge towards a Crusader Ares (Inferno and Ion), A2 Hercules, Genesis Starliner, you will receive a loaner vehicle for use in Star Citizen until such time as the Crusader Ares (Inferno and Ion), A2 Hercules, Genesis Starliner, is included in-game. This loaner vehicle will be a currently playable vehicle of similar approximate size and/or function to the concept ship pledged. We offer pledge ships to help fund Star Citizen’s development. The funding received from vehicles such as this allows us to include deeper features in the Star Citizen world. These vehicles will be available for in-game credits and/or will be otherwise earnable through play in the final universe. They are not required to start or succeed at the game."

Xbox One Controllers Are Getting Next-Gen Features Thanks To New Firmware

Microsoft is testing a new firmware update for Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One controllers, Xbox Elite 2, and Xbox Adaptive controllers that will grant them a range of next-gen features previously only available on Xbox Series X|S controllers.

Microsoft announced that it has begun testing the new firmware update in a blog post on the Xbox website. The firmware update, which is available to Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha users today, aims to reduce controller latency and improve cross-device connectivity.

In terms of the latter, the firmware update will allow the compatible controllers to support Bluetooth Low Energy, which allows for better pairing experiences between devices. The majority of Xbox One controllers are already able to utilize Bluetooth support when connecting to a PC or smartphone, but pair with Xbox consoles through the Xbox Wireless protocol. The Bluetooth Low Energy update will allow for a quicker switching experience between Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth devices as players will be able to do so at the double-tap of the pair button.

In line with next-gen controllers, the updated Xbox One, Xbox Elite 2 and Xbox Adaptive controllers will receive Dynamic Latency Input (DLI). This essentially allows for more responsive gameplay by delivering controller inputs more efficiently when connected to an Xbox Series X|S console. DLI is a feature that was previously only incorporated on Xbox Series X|S controllers, and while the firmware update isn't necessarily as useful for players using last-gen consoles, it certainly improves the versatility of the accessories overall.

In the blog post, Xbox elaborated further on its reasoning behind testing the firmware update on its controllers. "We believe it’s important to maintain backward compatibility with Xbox accessories people already have in their collection and to ensure we deliver the best gaming experience no matter how you choose to play," said Xbox.

In other Xbox news, Microsoft recently announced a new Forza Horizon 5 Limited Edition Controller as part of its Xbox Gamescom showcase. The upcoming controller features translucent yellow panels with an accompanying pink and blue color scheme and will launch on November 9 alongside its dedicated racing title. Fans can already pre-order the controller.
