• Daniel Craig Wants Studios To Go Further Than Casting a Female James Bond

Daniel Craig is about to take his final bow as James Bond when No Time to Die finally hits theaters this October. Afterward, it’s anyone’s guess who the next James Bond will be.

While there has been plenty of speculation and fan casting, nothing is set in stone. But when asked if a woman should play the next Bond, Craig said that would be a disservice to female actors.

“There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color,” Craig tells the RadioTimes when asked about a female Bond. “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

This comment echoes the sentiments of longtime James Bond film producer Barbara Broccoli who said in 2020, that “James Bond can be of any color, but he is male,” adding, “I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters… I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”

In this regard, No Time to Die will have a female 00 agent who isn’t James Bond. Lashana Lynch is set to play another agent in the movie alongside Craig and you can see Lynch in several of the film’s trailers.

After multiple delays, No Time to Die will finally arrive in theaters in the US on October 8. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time to Die will see several returning characters plus newcomers Lynch and a villain played by Rami Malek.

Netflix’s Arcane Posters Show off The League of Legends Show’s Cast

Netflix and Riot Games have revealed eight posters for the upcoming animated series Arcane. The posters feature some of the League of Legends heroes and Netflix separately revealed who will voice them.

So far the marketing materials for Arcane have focused heavily on Jinx. But the new posters have revealed some of the other cast members who will appear in the series. Check the gallery below for all eight characters posters revealed today.

As for voice talent, Netflix and Riot have enlisted some famous friends to help bring the Rift to life. Here’s who will voice who in Arcane.

    • VI voiced by Hailee Steinfeld
    • Jinx voiced by Ella Purnell
    • Jayce voiced by Kevin Alejandro
    • Caitlyn voiced by Katie Leung
    • Silco voiced by Jason Spisak
    • Mel voiced by Toks Olagundoye
    • Vander voiced by JB Blanc
    • Viktor voiced by Harry Lloyd

Arcane is set to focus on the world of Piltover and the “oppressed underground of Zaun.” Arcane was originally set to premiere in 2020 but was delayed until 2021 partly due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Funny enough Arcane isn’t Netflix’s first animated adaptation of a popular MOBA as the streamer debuted an animated series based on Dota earlier this year.

We’ll likely get a glimpse of Arcane this weekend at Netflix’s TUDUM event, a global digital event promising a ton of new trailers and reveals.

How to Get Characters in Genshin Impact

Are you playing Genshin Impact and unsure of how to get the characters you want? Well, you’re in the right place. This guide explains Gacha systems, pity, banners, currencies, and more.

    The Gacha System Explained

Genshin Impact is a Gacha game that uses an RNG. You may have seen this term tossed around by the community and it stands for “random number generator”. An RNG is an algorithm that, well… generates random numbers. And these numbers are used to dictate the results of certain events. Simply put — it’s luck — and it plays a big role in Gacha systems.

Many would say that the Gacha system is the controversial part of Genshin Impact. It’s often what puts off some players from the game, and for others, it might be what attracts them. So, what is it?

The Gacha system is similar to the loot boxes found in other games. Players spend currency to roll on a banner in hopes of getting the character or item they want. This is where the problem lies for some people as continuously not getting what they want can get frustrating and expensive.

Gacha games are notorious for having very low rates for their 5-star characters and weapons. Genshin Impact, in particular, has a 0.6% rate for their 5-star items and a 5.1% rate for their 4-star items. But in an attempt to answer player concerns around never striking it lucky, Genshin Impact includes a pity system.

The Pity System in Genshin Impact

The Pity system exists to snuff a little of the uncertainty out of the Gacha system. Basically, after a certain number of rolls, players are guaranteed to get a high rarity item. In Genshin Impact, this item is a 4 or 5-star character or weapon. The pity system in Genshin Impact works a bit like this:

    • Limited Character Banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 90 times for a guaranteed 5-star.
    • Standard Banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 90 times for a guaranteed 5-star.
    • Weapon Banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 80 times for a guaranteed 5-star.

The above refers to hard pity or the number of rolls it takes to get a guaranteed 4 or 5-star character/weapon. There is another type of pity called soft pity which starts around the 75th roll. This is where the chances of getting a 5-star character/weapon begin to increase.

Pity carries over from banner to banner. So, if you roll 75 times before a new banner drops, those rolls will carry over. Note that this only works if you’re rolling on the same banner. Character and Standard banners don’t share the same pity. They work separately, and this also applies to the Weapon banner.

Now with all that out of the way, you might be wondering about the different types of banners. Well, that’s the next topic we’re tackling.

    Banner Types in Genshin Impact

Banners are the categories you use your currencies to roll on. The content of each banner differs slightly but that difference is the key to making sure you get the characters you want. The first banner we’re going to talk about is the standard banner.

    Standard Banner

The standard banner is also known as the permanent banner. This is because the weapons and characters it contains don’t change very often.

The standard banner in Genshin Impact contains these characters and weapons:

    • Diluc
    • Jean
    • Qiqi
    • Mona
    • Keqing
    • All the 4-star characters
    • Skyward Weapon Series

This banner also contains 4-star weapons as well as 5-star weapons. It’s generally not advised to spend all your rolls on this banner as it’s the most random out of all of them.

    Limited Character Banner

Now we’re talking about the good stuff. This banner is where most people roll as it contains a limited character as well as a "rate up" for that character and other 4-star characters. Rate up means you have a much higher chance of getting that character than the ones without a rate up.

The Limited Character Banner typically contains:

    • Limited 5-star character with rate up
    • 4-star characters with rate up
    • The 5-star characters from the Standard Banner with no rate up
    • The 4-star characters (except Lisa, Kaeya, and Amber) from the Standard Banner with no rate up
    • Various 5-star weapons
    • 4-star weapons with no rate up

The Limited Character Banner also has a mechanic called 50/50, where if you don’t get the limited character as your first 5-star, the next 5-star you get is guaranteed to be the limited 5-star character. Note that this only works in this banner.

    Weapon Banner

If you’re in need of good weapons in Genshin Impact, this banner is one you’ll want to try. It usually has two 5-star weapons and a few 4-star weapons with rate up.

    The Weapon Banner contains:

    • Two 5-star weapons with rate up
    • A few 4-star weapons with rate up
    • Various 5-star weapons with no rate up
    • Various 4-star weapons with no rate up

If you want to know the specifics of each banner and what they are currently offering, click the details button underneath it in the game to see which weapons/characters you can get from it and the percentage.

    Genshin Impact Currencies

There are a lot of currencies available in Genshin Impact to use for banners. There are Primogems, fates, and genesis crystals. First, let’s talk about Primogems as these are the most important of them all.

    Primogems

Primogems are the most basic yet most important currency in Genshin Impact. You can convert Primogems into fates and use that to roll for the banner you like, however, this currency is experiencing a drought so make sure you’re not wasting them. You can earn Primogems in Genshin Impact naturally through quests, events, daily commissions, and the Spiral Abyss. There’s also a monthly subscription called Blessing of the Welkin Moon where you can gain a set amount of Primogems per day for 30 days, but it costs 4.99 USD.

    Fates

There are two kinds of Fates in Genshin Impact– Intertwined Fates and Acquaint Fates — and each Fate has a specific banner where you can use it. Intertwined Fates are used in limited character banners and weapon banners. Meanwhile, Acquaint Fates are used in standard banners.

To get Fates in Genshin Impact, it involves converting your Primogems and/or visiting Paimon’s bargains under the Shops tab. Paimon’s bargains offer fates for minor currencies called masterless starglitter and masterless stardust that you can earn by rolling in any banner.

    Genesis Crystals

Genesis Crystals cost real-life money in Genshin Impact. They can also be converted with a 1:1 value to Primogems but not vice-versa. This means once you’ve converted your Genesis Crystals to Primogems, you can’t convert them back. You can also use Genesis Crystals to buy outfits for characters.

How to Get Free Characters in Genshin Impact

Some Genshin Impact characters are acquired for free by simply playing through the main story. Some are also available for free for a limited time during special events. Here's how to get the (currently) free characters in Genshin Impact:

    Aloy (4-star)

    • Receive for free in version 2.1 (For PS4 and PS5 players)
    • Receive for free in version 2.2 (For other platforms)

    Amber (4-star)

    • Natural quest progression

    Barbara (4-star)

    • Creating a character before 1.1
    • Reaching Adventure Level 20

    Kaeya (4-star)

    • Natural quest progression

    Lisa (4-star)

    • Natural quest progression

    Noelle (4-star)

    • 100% guaranteed in Beginner’s Gacha Banner

    Xiangling (4-star)

    • Clearing Spiral Abyss Floor 3, Chamber 3

    Previously Free Characters

    Beidou (4-star)

    • Reward from the Thunder Sojourn event. (Past event)

    Diona (4-star)

    • Reward for the Energy Amplification event. (Past event)

    Fischl (4-star)

    • Complete Prinzessin's Pact of Unreconciled Stars event. (Past Event)

Characters are what dictate your flexibility in team-building in Genshin Impact and the kind of content you can clear. However, also knowing the best characters to roll for in Genshin Impact is great knowledge to have so you do not waste your precious Primogems. Put all of this together and you’re set up to have a smooth time in Genshin Impact!

Alan Wake Remastered Could Be a Switch Game After All

Alan Wake Remastered could also be heading to the Nintendo Switch after it was rated for the platform by a Brazillian agency.

As reported by the website switch-brasil.com and shared on Resetera, it appears that a Brazillian games agency has filed a rating for Alan Wake Remastered, Remedy’s update to its 2010 mystery-thriller.

International rating boards have leaked several, if not hundreds of games in the past, though you can still take this with a grain of salt. Alan Wake Remastered was previously announced for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Playstation 4, and Xbox Series X|S, so the inclusion of Switch in the Brazillian rating is new.

It’s unclear exactly whether this will be a full release on the Switch or a cloud version of the game. While porting studios have done wonders in the past to natively port games like Doom to the Switch, other major games like Resident Evil 7 were delivered to Switch players via a cloud streaming service.

On other systems, Alan Wake Remastered will offer options to run the game at 60fps and 4K for compatible platforms. The Remaster will also remove the real-life product placement ads in favor of fictional brands from the universe.

Other than that, it will be a true remaster of the original game. Though speaking with Axios, Remedy teased that fans will want to “definitely pay attention by playing the remaster,” for any tweaks that might connect Alan Wake to other Remedy games.

Epic and Remedy have also agreed to partner on a second, unannounced game that some are speculating is a sequel. But we’ll have to wait and see.

Check out IGN’s original Alan Wake review or see why we gave its spiritual successor Control our game of the year win in 2019.

Executive In Charge of Overwatch 2 Leaves Blizzard

Overwatch Executive Producer Chacko Sonny is leaving Blizzard Entertainment on Friday, according to an Activision spokesman talking to Bloomberg.

A Blizzard spokesman confirmed to Bloomberg that Chacko, who oversees the whole Overwatch franchise and development for the sequel, will leave the company. "[Blizzard] has been an absolute privilege and one of the best experiences of my career," Sonny said in an email to staff, according to Bloomberg.

Blizzard also says that Overwatch 2 is nearing the end of production at the time of Sonny's exit. An update on Overwatch 2 will be provided later this month, and the timeline on it may have shifted considering Overwatch 2 was reportedly still years out from launch.

Activision Blizzard is currently facing a lawsuit from the state of California for sexual harassment and discrimination. It was also recently discovered that the SEC is investigating harassment at Activision and the EEO has been investigating Activision since May 2020.

While Sonny's departure could be unrelated to the investigations, this is far from the first high-level departure at Activision. Blizzard president J. Allen Brack, Blizzard's chief legal officer Claire Hart, and Activision CPO Claudine Naughton have all exited or plan to exit the company in the months following the lawsuit.

Overwatch 2 director Jeff Kaplan also left the company, but that was in April 2021 before California's lawsuit was issued in July.

Activision Blizzard employees recently filed an unfair labor practice lawsuit against the company for harassing employees attempting to speak out against the company's culture.
