• New Dinosaurs Discovered in England Dubbed ‘Hell Heron’ and ‘Riverbank Hunter’

Scientists have discovered two new dinosaurs in England and they also gave them the coolest dinosaur names since the Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor: the Hell Heron and the Riverbank Hunter.

This news comes by way of LiveScience.com, which reports that these two dinosaurs were carnivores with crocodile-like skulls that lived along the riverbanks of England's Isle of Wight. This information is based on new fossils discovered on the riverbanks of the isle.

"We've known for a couple of decades now that the Baryonyx-like dinosaurs awaited discovery on the Isle of Wight, but finding the remains of two such animals in close succession was a huge surprise," British paleontologist Darren Naish, said in a statement following the discovery of these fossils.

The scientists that discovered the fossils believe the carnivorous dinosaurs to be an earlier species of Spinosaurids, which are relatives of the Spinosaurus. The Ceratosuchops inferodios, aka the Hell Heron, was discovered by way of a few skull fragments while their riverbank-stalking buddy (ok, so they probably weren't actually buddies but real respects real, right?), the Riparovenator milnerae, aka the Riverbank Hunter, was discovered via some skull and tailbone fragments.

LiveScience reports that these two dinosaur species likely lived about 125 million years ago, which places them in the Cretaceous period. This means they lived about 25 million years before their more-famous relative, the Spinosaurus (although with names like Hell Heron and Riverbank Hunter, who knows how much longer the Spinosaurus will remain more popular).

Both the Hell Heron and the Riverbank Hunter grew to be about 29.5 feet long, or 9 meters long, and this was determined based on the 3.3-foot size of their skulls, according to LiveScience.

Marvel’s Most Infamous Spider-Man Twist Just Got Way More Convoluted

It's safe to say 2007's Spider-Man: One More Day is one of the most infamous and controversial Marvel stories ever published. It turns out not everyone is a fan of Peter Parker making literal deals with the Devil. But if there's one takeaway from The Amazing Spider-Man #74, it's that the circumstances surrounding Spidey's deal with Mephisto are far more convoluted than we ever realized.

Read on to find out how this big finale issue alters and complicates the events of One More Day, but beware of full spoilers ahead for The Amazing Spider-Man #74!

    Spider-Man's Confusing Kindred Saga

Issue #74 marks the conclusion of writer Nick Spencer's three-year Amazing Spider-Man run. From the beginning, Spencer positioned the mysterious, undead Kindred as the main villain of his overarching story. We finally learned the identity of Kindred in ASM #50, where he was revealed to be none other than Spidey's BFF and occasional arch-nemesis, Harry Osborn. However, that was just the first of many plot twists concerning Kindred's identity and motivations.

This is where things start to get really complicated, so you might want to sit down and pour a drink.

Kindred is actually two people, and neither of them are Harry. The series has dusted off the *other* controversial storyline from writer J. Michael Straczynski's Amazing Spider-Man run, Sins Past. That story revealed Norman Osborn secretly fathered two children with Gwen Stacy (yeah, gross). These super-powered twins, named Gabriel and Sarah, suffered from accelerated aging and sought revenge against Peter for supposedly abandoning their mother. As revealed in issue #73, they've both been masquerading as Kindred this entire time.

But it only gets more confusing from here. It turns out they aren't the children of Norman and Gwen, but are instead artificial superhumans grown by Harry Osborn. But not the original Harry Osborn. Before his tragic death in 1993's The Spectacular Spider-Man #200 (which was seemingly undone by the events of One More Day), Harry created a digital copy of his consciousness, and that's the Harry who's been the architect of Spider-Man's misery these past few years. As for the Harry who's been pal-ing around with Peter since his return at the end of One More Day? A clone, of course. That clone has no vendetta against Spidey, and winds up sacrificing his own life to save his father Norman in this issue.

Basically, all of these lies and deceptions have been part of the Harry A.I.'s fiendish plot against Spider-Man and his father. He's even relied on partners like Mysterio to create illusions and false memories, which is why both Norman and Mary Jane thought they remembered the Gwen affair. But if that weren't all complicated enough, there's an even bigger villain who's been pulling the Harry A.I.'s strings – Mephisto.

    Revisiting One More Day

In the end, we learn even Kindred has just been a pawn in a multi-year game being played by Mephisto. It all dates back to a time before Norman Osborn became the Green Goblin. He sold Harry's soul to Mephisto in exchange for power and notoriety, and the unholy consequences of that bargain have been plaguing the Osborn and Parker families ever since. Mephisto has been the hand guiding Kindred. But even Norman was only ever a means to an end so Mephisto could strike at Peter Parker.

This is where the series ties back to the events of One More Day. That story infamously shows Peter sacrificing his marriage to MJ in exchange for Aunt May's life, part of Marvel editorial's efforts to bring Spider-Man back to a more traditional, non-married status quo (apparently a divorce would have been a step too far). In One More Day, Mephisto claims to be motivated out of a general desire to spread misery in the mortal realm. Souls are tasty, but stolen happiness is a true delicacy. He even turns the screws by appearing in the form of a young girl, revealing only after the deal is struck that this form is the daughter Peter and MJ will never have.

But after this seemingly endless series of plot twists, we learn the real secret of Mephisto's game in The Amazing Spider-Man #74. He had a much deeper reason for wanting to eliminate Peter's marriage. Mephisto has seen a vision of the future where he and his demons reign supreme on Earth. That victory is snuffed out by a lone hero. Not Spider-Man, but Spider-Girl (Peter and MJ's daughter May "Mayday" Parker). One More Day was Mephisto's way of ensuring his defeat won't come to pass.

However, Mephisto may have finally overplayed his hand. He's already lost Harry's soul in a wager with Doctor Strange, and the entire Kindred ordeal seems to have only brought Peter and MJ closer together. Spencer's run ends with the two happily kissing high atop the city. After all this drama, Mephisto might actually have reopened the door to a married Spider-Man.

    What's Next for Spider-Man?

Does this mean Marvel is undoing the events of One More Day? It's hard to say for sure. Peter and MJ are back to being a couple after roughly a decade's worth of comics spent apart, but it's a little premature to predict wedding bells in their future. Again, Marvel's entire reasoning for ending their marriage in the first place was to bring Peter back to his roots as a freewheeling, chronically unlucky bachelor. There's no reason to assume that thinking has changed over the last 14 years.

Regardless, the Peter/MJ romance will remain at the forefront of the series as the next creative team takes over in issue #75. Hellions writer Zeb Wells and a rotating team of creators are establishing a new storyline dubbed Spider-Man Beyond. The Amazing Spider-Man #75 will show Peter being hospitalized after a run-in with a mystery villain, leaving him out of commission for an extended period of time. In his place, Peter's wayward clone Ben Reilly is going to get a second chance to prove himself as Spider-Man. He'll even have the backing of the mysterious Beyond Corporation.

Ben will apparently be Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe for the foreseeable future. We recently learned he'll be appearing in Devil's Reign, a Kingpin-centric crossover spinning out of Chip Zdarsky's Daredevil series. The question now is whether Ben is temporarily filling Peter's spandex boots, or if our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man might finally take some time to rest and focus on his personal life for a change.

Meanwhile, the next Spider-Man movie may bring elements of One More Day into the MCU, with Tom Holland's Peter Parker enlisting Doctor Strange's help to make the world forget his secret identity. What could possibly go wrong?

    2021 LG C1 65" 4K OLED TV Price Drop

Today the newest LG 65" 4K OLED TV has dropped to the lowest price we've ever seen. The LG C1 OLED TV improves upon last year's highly-rated CX model with an upgraded A9 Gen 4 processor that delivers slightly better image quality, better 4K scaling, and improved audio handling as well as a new webOS smart TV redesign. The C1 OLED TV also looks good when paired to a gaming PC with an RTX 30 series video card because it has HDMI 2.1 inputs that support 4K at 120Hz and G-SYNC. It's easily one of the best (if not the best) TVs on the market right now.

Everyone loves to order off Amazon, but technically Newegg has a slightly better deal on the 65" model. The price is the same, but you get a bonus $100 Newegg gift card and an extended 3rd party 3-year warranty.

You simply cannot beat this price. The item has over 3,000 reviews on Amazon with a 4.5 star rating, so it's probably not a piece of junk.

Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons Pair The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Edition

This is the lowest price we've ever seen for these gorgeously designed set of Joy-Cons. Each Joy-Con is a subtle shade of blue; the right controller is themed after the Master Sword, while the left features a Hylian Shield motif. Seagate Firecuda 530 M.2 SSD with Heatsink

The Seagate Firecuda 530 has been incredibly hard to find in stock, especially the model with the pre-installed heatsink. This is actually the first time we've seen this SSD actually orderable on Amazon. It's one of the most recommended SSDs for installing in a PS5 console. It's actually a bit faster than the WD SN850 (up to 7,300MB/s vs 7000MB/s) and the heatsink is designed by EKWB, a very well respected company that specializes in cooling PCs.

WD Black SN850 M.2 SSD with Heatsink

The Western Digital official storefront has all models of the SN850 SSD with heatsink in stock right now, and that includes the extremely hard to find 1TB model. This is currently the most popular (and probably the best) SSD to get for your PS5 storage upgrade. It's blazing fast drive with transfer speeds rated at up to 7,000 MB/s and a PCIe Gen4 interface and it comes preinstalled with a heatsink. It's also confirmed by Western Digital themselves to be compatible with the PS5.

PS5 SSD Without Heatsink (Easy DIY Install)

Save some money when you buy a cheap PS5 compatible heatsink on Amazon and install it yourself (it's super easy). Putting a heatsink on an SSD on your own won't void any warranty. In most cases, the heatsinks are simply pressure-fit with a clip or stuck on with a removable adhesive. It will probably take you less than 10 minutes to do.

Dell XPS Intel Core i5 RTX 3060 PC for $999.99

This is the lowest price we've found anywhere right now for an RTX 3060 equipped gaming PC. The RTX 3060 is no slouch; its performance is superior to the RTX 2060 SUPER and almost matches the RTX 2070 SUPER in some games. You couldn't even find an RTX 2060 SUPER PC for under $1,000 at the moment. It's paired with the latest 11th generation Intel Core i5 processor. The 8GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive is pretty basic, but since this is a desktop PC, it's very easy to swap out those components yourself with better ones.

Alienware Aurora R12 RTX 3080 PC for $2199.99

If you've been on the lookout for the extremely elusive RTX 3080 video card for your (up to 4K) gaming needs, then check out this ready-to-go prebuilt Alienware Aurora gaming PC from Dell. This PC comes equipped with an 11th gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory, 512GB SSD, and a separate 1TB hard drive for storage. The RTX 3080 is more powerful than the previous generation's best video card, the RTX 2080 Ti, and is the best recommended video card for 4K gaming.

    Squid Game: Season 1 Review

Squid Game is now streaming on Netflix.

Squid Game sounds like an homage to those strange underwater creatures that undulate below the sea. It's actually a compelling, candy-coated fever dream in which contestants play the innocent games from their childhood with one major change: if they lose, their lives are forfeit. It's a jarring, disturbing portrait of individuals eking out hard luck existences and struggling across Seoul, South Korea, and as much a tale of a dystopian hellscape of the mind as it is a horror series viewed through the lens of those scraping by.

Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is an average guy who's in serious need of some cash, or a miracle. He's down on his luck, with a daughter he may never see again and an elderly mother who's still forced to take care of him as though he were a child. So when given the opportunity to play a series of children's games for an astronomical sum of money, Gi-hun can't refuse.

Neither can nearly 500 other participants, all of whom have been voluntarily whisked away to the middle of nowhere, under surveillance by masked guards and clad in numbered T-shirts and sweatsuits. All are chasing the magical sum of money that could potentially make every single one of their problems disappear — but at what cost?

That all becomes apparent once the "players" realize even the simplest children's game in this prison-like compound could result in a swift, painful death. The childlike joy of "Red Light, Green Light" quickly devolves into a harrowing sight as those who move a single muscle during the "red light" are unceremoniously shot where they stand.

It's haunting, of course, but perhaps even more terrifying is the idea that these people are willingly participating. The thought of returning to their old lives and facing their debts is so terrible that they'd rather risk imminent death. It's a concept that hangs heavy throughout the series' lean 9-episode run, especially as the story expands from Gi-hun's somewhat selfish existence and explores the others involved in the games.

One of the series' greatest strengths is weaving a tangled web of character development that pays off with each new hour we watch. North Korean defector Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon) is tough as nails on the outside, but occasionally reveals a kinder, gentler side. Gi-hun's childhood friend Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo) is an even more intriguing case, having stolen money from his clients, going so far as to put his mother's home and business on the line as collateral. And though we know all this, these players' truest intentions remain obfuscated time and time again. That’s part of what keeps us watching, after all.

Squid Game moves at a breakneck pace, speeding from game to game.

And it’s easy to become attached to these players, even though it's quickly established that you could be saying goodbye to them at any moment. Squid Game moves at a breakneck pace, speeding from game to game, keeping you at the edge of your seat as the body count climbs and the plot continues to thicken. And it isn't for the squeamish, as participants are shot right between the eyes without so much as flinching during competitions and bodies left to pile up until there are enough victors to pass through.

Sometimes it’s not that characters are dying, but how they’re “eliminated” that makes you sit up and pay attention. The first game involves an eerie robot doll that turns around and “looks” for people still moving after the “red light” is given as it scans for violators. The second game forces players to chisel a shape out of a piece of honeycomb — prompting the craftier players to use anything at their disposal, even if it means the humiliating task of licking the treat over and over again to make the job easier.

But throughout all the violence and the multiple poignant, thoughtful moments, there's one central thread: the juxtaposition of the innocence of childhood against the harsh world we're all forced to endure. There are also questions upon questions that arise at every corner. For instance, who are these mysterious masked captors, and how does it benefit them to offer such a large payout for people who are down on their luck? Why not find a less sadistic way to be altruistic?

It's difficult to say, of course, but answers do come in due time. You'll be left pondering what these poor souls could possibly be made to go through next as each episode concludes, however, and frantically scrambling for the play button to see what happens, all in the hopes of finding out what's really going on, just like the players themselves, and striking it rich with a bit of "plot" lottery. While the last bits of the story do drag a small bit as the story winds down, the tension doesn’t let up until the final credits roll. By then, you’ll have seen hundreds of deaths, gallons of blood, and some truly ingenious acts from people just like you and me who have all chosen one path forward: living, no matter what it takes. And that’s a hell of a lot scarier than giving up and succumbing to debts and hardship.

Critical Role Campaign 3 October Premiere Date Announced, Will Simulcast in Movie Theaters

Critical Role ended its Campaign 2 adventure with The Mighty Nein earlier this year, but it's time for Campaign 3 to begin, and it's only a few weeks away.

As announced as part of today's State of the Role, Critical Role's third campaign will premiere on Twitch and YouTube on October 21 at 7 pm PT with a live episode. Players can expect the entire Critical Role cast to return, meaning Matthew Mercer, Ashley Johnson, Marisha Ray, Taliesin Jaffe, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Laura Bailey, and Liam O'Brien will all resume their spots as a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors sitting around a table playing Dungeons and Dragons. Critical Role has teased to expect some new faces throughout Campaign 3, but has not announced specific guests yet.

Season 3 will see a new group of adventurers joining up in Marquet, set in the world of Exandria. Campaign 3 will take place after the events of Exandria Unlimited and the Mighty Nein campaign.

In addition to airing live on Twitch and YouTube, the premiere will also be simulcast in 20 cities in select Cinemark Theatres locations throughout the United States that night. More information can be found on Cinemark's website.

New episodes of Critical Role Campaign 3 will air, as the show previously has, on Thursdays at 7 pm PT on Twitch and YouTube. Twitch subscribers get immediate access to VODs of episodes, while they'll also be available to all others each following Monday on YouTube at 12 pm PT. The show is also available in audio form on podcast platforms.

Critical Role's second campaign ended earlier in 2021, but the group has been far from quiet since then. Exandria Unlimited, the first Critical Role limited series, recently aired and included a brand-new set of adventurers and a canon story set in the CR timeline. And Critical Role has expanded in a number of different directions beyond the weekly D&D live stream, with new shows on Twitch and YouTube, comic books, a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, and even board games.

On the last of those, the company's new board and card game publishing arm, Darrington Press, recently released its first game, Uk'otoa, and production continues on the Vox Machina animated series that went from its impressive Kickstarter run to being picked up for multiple seasons by Amazon.
