Gotham Knights Gets a New Story Trailer, But No New Release Date

Gotham Knights has gotten a new story trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette. Unfortunately, after a recent delay into 2022, we didn't get a new release date.

Shown at DC FanDome 2021, the story trailer shows Nightwing talking to supervillain The Penguin, who explains that the Batfamily – Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood – don't stand a chance in a Gotham being run by the deadly secret society, The Court of Owls.

The trailer goes onto show action scenes featuring the entire Batfamily, multiple Talons (the Court of Owls' assassins), and some intriguing locations featuring dungeon-like traps, scattered bones, and even a mysteriously placed Bat Signal.

A separate behind-the-scenes featurette included game developers, Court of Owls co-creators Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, and DC CCO Jim Lee discussing the game and its inspirations.

Snyder explains that what he's seen of the game, saying "I was blown away. It took what we had done with Court of Owls but it just elevated it beyond a lot of the borders that we had had." The upshot is that this is an extended version of the Court as fans will already know it.

Gotham Knights creative director Patrick Redding explains that Talons have been designed in wildly different ways, designed to get players to choose different gear to beat them more effectively. "So, like any good RPG," he explains, "we're presenting you with a problem, and then we're presenting you with a range of potential solutions, and then players will have an opportunity to maximise that according to their own style."

Announced last year, Gotham Knights is set in a universe where Bruce Wayne/Batman has died. Now, members of the Wayne Family including Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood must work together to protect Gotham City in his absence.

As part of the premise, Gotham Knights supports two-player, drop-in co-op, allowing you to play with a friend or solo as you fight villains like Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls. We had a lot of our biggest questions about the game answered last year.

DC’s Monkey Prince Leaps Into New Comic Book Series – DC FanDome 2021

Months after introducing the Monkey Prince to the DC Universe, DC is revealing ambitious new plans for this fantastical Chinese hero. DC will launch a 12-issue Monkey Prince series in February 2022, chronicling the further adventures of Marcus Sun.

As revealed at DC FanDome, original creators Gene Luen Yang and Bernard Chang are returning for the limited series, with the first issue also featuring variant covers by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau and Zao Dao. The first issue releases on February 1, 2022, which also happens to be the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

The Monkey Prince debuted earlier in 2021 in a short story included in the anthology special DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration #1. That story paired the hero with Shazam to battle Dr. Sivana and an ancient Chinese deer spirit.

Fans of the character can look forward to another new story much sooner than February. DC has just published a new digital Monkey Prince comic called "Apokolips in the Heavenly Realm," which features Sun and other classic Journey to the West characters defending their realm from Darkseid and his Parademon hordes. That story is free to read on DCComics.com and DCUniverse.com.
