Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Idris Elba’s Knuckles Will Not Be ‘Sexy’

Idris Elba says Knuckles the Echidna will not be sexy in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel.

Speaking to Screen Rant about Knuckles' characterization in the film, Elba said, “Honestly, I cannot say. Contractually, I cannot say anything. But I wouldn't say he was sexy. I don't think I'm going for that. That's for sure.”

Elba was named People's Sexiest Man Alive in 2018, and he's known for commanding the screen in shows and movies including The Wire, Luther, and most recently, The Suicide Squad. This has led fans to speculate Elba will bring that same appeal to his animated counterpart. However, we now know not to expect Elba's trademark sex appeal when he voices Sonic's best frenemy, at least on purpose.

While Knuckles has never been known for his sex appeal, he's arguably at the top of his game when he's romping around Pumpkin Hill to the iconic (and endlessly memed) Pumpkin Hill rap soundtrack. Conversely, Knuckles fans weren't head-over-heels for his Sonic Boom redesign, which saw him become much larger, and much less intelligent. We'll have to see where on the scale Elba's portrayal of Knuckles lands.

We first learned Elba would voice the red echidna earlier this year, when the actor posted a photo of Knuckles' knuckles on Instagram. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to release on April 8, 2022.

For more, check out our Sonic the Hedgehog movie review, where we said, "While this family-friendly action-comedy suffers from a simplistic story and leans too heavily on tired visual cliches, Sonic the Hedgehog is nevertheless boosted by solid performances from Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik."

Scientists Find First Signs of a Planet Beyond Our Galaxy

Scientists have found signs of a planet transiting a star outside of the Milky Way, potentially representing what could be the first-ever planet to be detected in another galaxy.

Researchers found evidence of a planet in the Messier 51 galaxy, located some 28 million light-years away from the Milky Way, as they detected a dip in brightness in the luminous "whirlpool" system. They used NASA's Chandra X-ray Telescope to observe transits, which can sometimes occur when planets pass in front of stars and block out a portion of the light.

The transit technique has been used by astronomers for years to aid the discovery of exoplanets and exoplanet candidates — all of which have been found in the Milky Way up until now. It's a method that has produced successful results, though it also presents a few challenges, particularly for scientists wanting a second viewing to confirm their findings.

"Unfortunately to confirm that we're seeing a planet we would likely have to wait decades to see another transit," said Nia Imara, who co-authored the recently published paper, presenting data that is consistent with a model of a planet candidate. "And because of the uncertainties about how long it takes to orbit, we wouldn't know exactly when to look."

While attempts to confirm the observation may be thwarted, the study's lead author, Rosanne Di Stefano, recognized that the potential discovery may help to broaden future studies and "open up a whole new arena for finding other worlds by searching for planet candidates at X-ray wavelengths, a strategy that makes it possible to discover them in other galaxies."

Astronomers previously discovered 139 new "minor planets" in the far reaches of our solar system, just beyond Neptune's orbit in the vast expanse of the galaxy, which also plays host to a free-floating world without a host star, a "hell planet" strangely similar to Darth Vader's lava homeworld of Mustafar, and a Super-Earth that's nearly as old as the universe itself.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: 20 Easter Eggs and Their Comic Origins

Spoiler warning: this article features no story spoilers for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but does discuss one location from the game and details twenty items that can be found there.

Despite its pop music soundtrack, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is not based on the James Gunn MCU movie of the same name. Its inspirations go back to the comics, and with that comes a whole bunch of Marvel Easter eggs. A huge amount of these can be conveniently found in one location: The Collector’s Emporium. And while all of them are labelled up to make sure you’re not left in that dark, none of them reveal their comic book origins. And that’s where we come in: our video below looks at every item in the Collector’s Emporium, and the Marvel history behind them.

For a closer look, we've also put together a full gallery of each and every item in The Collector's Emporium, with descriptions of each one. Check them all out below.

Narco: How a Serial Killer Comic Spawned a Shared Horror Universe

As far as horror graphic novels go, it doesn't get much weirder than 2017's Plastic. That story follows a deranged serial killer who travels the country with a blow-up sex doll as his only companion. Now the creators of Plastic are reuniting to not only rerelease Plastic in an expanded hardcover edition, but also kick off Narco, an entirely new story set within the Plastic universe.

Check out the slideshow gallery below for an exclusive first look at Narco, and then read on for more details about this suspenseful new horror series:

Like Plastic, Narco is written by Doug Wagner, drawn by Daniel Hillyard and colored by Dave Stewart. This new book is part of a larger effort to expand on the horror universe established in the original Plastic. The Image Comics miniseries Vinyl is also set within this universe.

Whereas Plastic is a demented story with a serial killer as its main protagonist, Narco pivots to a more Hitchcockian brand of suspenseful horror. The main character, Marcus, witnesses a grisly murder and sets out to find the killer. The catch is that he suffers from a bad case of narcolepsy, and stress and violence only make him more prone to falling asleep at inopportune times.

"When Daniel and I first started these twisted, serial killer yarns, we had no plans for an actual universe," Wagner tells IGN. "It was supposed to be a one and done. But readers kept clamoring for more, so we dug deep into the dark spots of our souls (which seem to have a comedic slant for some reason) and created Vinyl. With some perspective help from a few friends, we were told we’d created a universe and that we should keep playing there until we ran out of ideas. Oh, you poor fools."

Wagner continues, "Daniel and I have just scratched the surface for depraved, frenzied, love stories filled with the most unlikely of heroes. We’ve already planned out the next two years of material. It’s funny. When given permission to dive deep into this Plastic-verse of ours, we just can’t seem to stop coming up with more and more ridiculously twisted and exciting ideas. I honestly get giddy every time I think about it, and Narco is the next stop down this road."

"I never would have thought that a serial killer in love with a blow-up sex doll would lead Doug and I into creating our own weird serial-killer universe, but here we are," says Hillyard. "From horror-comedy love to surreal bloody friendships and now a dark suspense thriller with NARCO… There’s less bombast and gore, but we’ve made up for it with warping twisted environments and obsessive shadows. The protagonist of NARCO (Marcus) is very much trapped in a world that can become chaotic in a second, and we tried to depict that in the storytelling and visual style."

Narco is being offered exclusively through Kickstarter as a two-book bundle. The set also includes a new printing of Plastic that includes a new short story starring the serial killer Edwyn.

In other comic book news, DC is teasing a major Wonder Woman crossover for 2022 dubbed Trial of the Amazons, and Marvel is launching a new volume of She-Hulk helmed by Runaways writer Rainbow Rowell.
