• Ms. Marvel: Who Are the ClanDestine?

This article contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel. Check out our review of Ms. Marvel Episode 3 if you're not caught up yet!

Last week’s Ms. Marvel episode, “Destined” had it all. A wedding, teenage superhero drama, and even a fight scene set to Bon Jovi. That last part feels especially appropriate since the rock band was formed in Kamala Khan’s hometown of New Jersey (Bon Jovi’s home state). But the biggest moment comes during the opening scenes, where Kamala (Iman Vellani) meets the mysterious Najma (Nimra Bucha). Not only is Najma the mother of her Kamran — Kamala’s crush — but she also happens to be a member of an interdimensional race known as the ClanDestine.

    Who are the ClanDestine?

Created by Alan Davis, the ClanDestine first appeared in Marvel Comics Presents #158. They are a group of superhumans led by a man called Adam Destine. Adam was a knight who found out a startling secret: whenever he suffered a severe wound in battle, he would recover when he had dreams of a mysterious woman. During one of his adventures, Adam encountered the warlord Al Kadhdhaab, who hired him to kill a wizard that possessed an all-powerful mystical gem. Turns out that Kadhdhaab wanted the gem for himself and betrayed Adam. Adam shattered the gem, freeing the woman from his dreams – who was named Elyath.

    What are the ClanDestine’s Powers?

Elyath used her powers to make Adam immortal and virtually unkillable, and the two would soon marry. They gave birth to a whole lineage of children, each with their own special power. First-born Jasmine has immense telepathic powers; Albert can heal others and learned to cast magic spells over the years; Newton possesses unrivaled intellect; Dominic has superhuman senses; Samantha can control a living metal that usually takes the shape of armor; Walter can transform into a massive, superhumanly strong beast; and youngest twins Rory and Pandora can manipulate the forces of gravity and light respectively.

    ClanDestine in Ms. Marvel

The ClanDestine in Ms. Marvel seem to have more than a few differences with their comic counterparts. For one thing, there’s the interdimensional element. While the ClanDestine did have mystical powers, only Elyath is from another dimension. And while the ClanDestine consists of mostly Caucasian characters in the comics, the fact that they are led by a Pakistani woman in the MCU is another way the show ties itself to Kamala’s heritage.

At first, Namja is kind to Kamala, telling the young heroine more about her great-grandmother Aisha. She also asks for Kamala’s help in getting back home, as her bangle might possess enough energy to accomplish the task. But when she learns that the result could have dangerous consequences, Kamala asks Kamran for more time while she figures out what to do. This doesn’t sit well with Namja, and she and the other ClanDestine attack Kamala at her brother Aamir’s wedding. Even though Damage Control shows up and arrests them, it’s a safe bet that the back half of the series will have them coming into conflict with Kamala once again.

The presence of the ClanDestine leads to another deep cut from Marvel Comics canon. In the opening of “Destined,” the ClanDestine are shown searching for the bangle that Kamala currently wears, and Namja mentions that it is one of a pair. This may reference the cosmic artifacts known as the Nega-Bands, which transforms a user’s thoughts into energy. The Nega-Bands were created by the Kree – and in a possible hint to the alien race, Namja finds the bangle around a bright blue arm. Not only would the Nega-Bands explain Kamala’s new powers, but it would also give her a closer tie to her superhero idol Carol Danvers since Danvers got her powers from a Kree experiment as well.

    5 Best Minecraft Fabric Mods

There comes a time in every Minecrafter’s journey where the vanilla game gets a little samey, so why not spice up your gameplay with some exciting mods? As Fabric is a lightweight version of Minecraft allowing mods to be run on the client and server side, it is an excellent alternative to the well-known Forge mod loader. With several Fabric mods to choose from, we narrowed it down to 5 top Minecraft Fabric mods that fulfill performance, challenges and creativity.

Disclaimer: Using mods can corrupt files if they're not installed correctly!

See our shortlist below and let us know what Minecraft Mods for Fabric are your favorite right now.

    1. Origins

Minecraft, the sandbox that it is, allows you to live out your fantasies. And whilst RP is possible in the base game, the Origins mod completely revolutionizes how each new playthrough of the game works. Like other RPGs, Origins allows you to pick a specific race to play as, which actively changes your gameplay experience in a fundamental way. With 11 options to choose from, you have plenty of choices to make each new world feel fresh and challenging.

    Excellent examples are:

    • The Arachnid, which allows you to climb any surface, meaning traversal is infinitely easier. As an Arachnid, you also passively apply cobweb to enemies as you fight them. The tradeoff is you have 3 fewer hearts than usual, and can only eat meat items, meaning any other kind of farming is useless.
    • Another is the Merling, which completely changes the game, as you can breathe underwater, swim and mine super fast, and your vision is crystal clear whilst in liquid. The catch? You can’t breathe on land. This means if you want to travel on land, or underground, you’ll need to bring a water bucket.

    Downloadable here.

    2. Decorative Blocks

A smaller-scale mod, but one that enriches your building experience in a number of ways. Once installed, Decorative Blocks adds a second page to the menu in Creative (or new items to build in Survival) which focuses solely on blocks/entities that enable some decorative flair. From chandeliers to seats, from lattices to support shelves, these items can help to make your house feel more like a home and adds an extra dimension of creativity.

    Downloadable here.

    3. Dehydration

For those hungry for an even tougher survival experience in Minecraft, this Dehydration mod adds a Thirst meter to your HUD, where you’ll need to routinely have a drink from water sources (besides the oceans) to stay in good shape. Not only does this increase your immersion, but it also adds additional uses to more niche items like water bottles.

    Downloadable here.

    4. Oh The Biomes You’ll Go

Arguably the most sizeable mod on this list, and one of the largest you’ll see in all of Minecraft, Oh The Biomes You’ll Go introduces a staggering 75 brand new biomes to the game. And yes, these biomes bring new blocks, ores, items, and entities. If you think you’ve seen it all in Minecraft, this can be just the boost your play needs.

You’re also provided with a handy Biomepedia once you spawn into a new world, so you can keep track of the new biomes and items.

    Downloadable here.

    5. Mo’ Structures

Another wonderful way to recapture the sense of wonder in exploring the world of Minecraft, Mo’ Structures adds a significant amount of new buildings to each and every biome, with new Advancements to act as a cherry on top for people who might seek 100% completion.

These can be wonderful spots to make your own camp or have as accents to a nearby build. From ruins to restaurants, and farms to retirement spots for villagers, who knows what you might find as you journey around the world?

    Downloadable here.

How to Support Reproductive Care: List of Charitable Organizations

On June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, which has guaranteed the legal right to abortion nationwide since 1973. The practical effect of this decision is that abortion will be banned in 9 states within 30 days, with at least 12 more likely to follow. Increased legal restrictions are likely to severely impact clinics and organizations specializing in reproductive health, making it more difficult to access life-saving care, with people of color and other marginalized groups being disproportionately affected.

Game studios including Bungie, Insomniac, and Innersloth have responded to the decision by affirming their support for reproductive rights while posting links to charity and advocacy organizations. Disney, Netflix, and other studios have promised to provide access to abortion care for employees, including expanded travel benefits to cover employees who may now need to cross state lines to obtain essential care.

On June 24, IGN released the following statement.

IGN is committed to being inclusive and supporting equality. We believe our employees have the right to make personal decisions about their physical and mental well-being. With employees in multiple states, we believe that all of our employees are entitled to universal access to health care and services, regardless of where one chooses to live.

    How to Help: Charitable Organizations

A number of reproductive health and advocacy groups are currently accepting donations and support for their efforts to help guarantee access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion. We encourage you to consider the resources below, which offer ways to help organizations advocating for access to reproductive care and support.

    National Network of Abortion Funds

National Network of Abortion Funds provides support for those seeking abortion on every level, from national to regional. In addition to monetary support, they offer “practical support” which is defined as “transportation, lodging, childcare, translation” and other services. You can read more about their services here. Donations could mean a huge amount to these smaller, grassroots organizations – you can see a list of funds by region here. Note that National Network of Abortion Funds was experiencing site outages and are also accepting direct donations at this link.

    Center for Reproductive Rights

The Center for Reproductive Rights touts itself as “the only global legal advocacy organization dedicated to reproductive rights.” Its focus is backing effective reproductive health law in both the US and abroad.

Repro Legal Defense Fund via If/When/How

This fund, set up by advocacy group If/When/How, covers bail costs and pays for legal defenses for those investigated, arrested, or prosecuted for self-managing an abortion. The fund also offers free, confidential help from legal experts.

    Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood provides a network of over 600 clinics that provide reproductive health and give access to abortion across the country. Here’s a list of services Planned Parenthood provides, and a list of clinics you can search here.

    Other Resources

Below are resources for those looking for assistance with reproductive health. We will add any relevant resources that we discover.

National Abortion Federation Hotline – 1-800-772-9100

The National Abortion Federation’s National Hotline ”operates the largest national, toll-free, multi-lingual Hotline for abortion referrals and financial assistance in the U.S.” You can also donate to the fund here.

Interactive Map of Abortion Policies and Access

The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-choice policy organization, has put together an interactive map of the US that provides a readable rundown of abortion policies and statistics for each state.

IGN has been diligently practicing ways in which we can share cultural celebrations and promote inclusivity, as well as drive support toward humanitarian causes through our How to Help articles. The IGN editorial team is committed to using our platform for good to aid the innocent voices who need it the most. We of course encourage our readers to support the causes and associated organizations that most resonate with them, and encourage you to donate if you have the means to.
