Diablo is a long running game franchise for the PC from Blizzard Entertainment. If you are not familiar with Blizzard, maybe you have heard of their other PC game they make, World of Warcraft. Diablo 2 was made nearly 12 years ago, so to say that there was a gap in between games is a little bit of an understatement. Diablo games are a top down dungeon crawler, role playing game. What that means is you basically walk around killing everything to upgrade your weapons and gear for better stuff.
The setting is a med evil type like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. The basic story is the forces of hell are coming to take over the world led by Diablo himself. When starting the game, you will get to choose from different character types, such as Monk, Wizzard, Demon Hunter, Barbarian or Witch Doctor. There is no customization here, you just get to pick the character, then male or female and then name them, little bit of a bummer if you were hoping to change more looks of the character.
Diablo 3 plays just like the others in the franchise, click on the enemy and kill them. There are different skills you will acquire as you play. You can use up to a max of 6 skills, they are assigned to the left click and right click and you number keys 1 -4. The graphics are on par with most games, but will not blow you away. The one thing that sticks out to me are the little touches like debris falling in the background or rats running across the floor.
The sound is good and all the missions have voice actors. Another thing that really shines are the CG cut scenes, Blizzard is the undisputed king of making those. The game options is were things are a little different that normal. There is a single player mode, but while you play you must be signed online to play. Meaning if you do not have an internet connection you can not play the game. The reason Blizzard claims, is to prevent the game from being pirated. There is 4 player co -op as well. There are features that do not work as of right now, the online auction house and the player vs player does not work as well.
Blizzard claims these features will be added at a later date. Another glitch that happened near launch but should be cleared up by now, is since the game was online only the servers were crashing and many people could not play their new game. Besides the missing features and online glitches, this is a fun game to play and any roleplaying fan should give it a try!
